As you can see, I've ditched the V1.0alphaX version numbers and moved back to a more conventional version number sequence. That should help keeping things a bit more orderly than they were during the last year ... and a half ... so what's new in this version?

This clearly is by far the longest time Traces of Illumination had between two releases - so I thought it might be a good time to dive a little into the history so far: The last release was V1.0alpha9b, released 2008-10-12. That's about 1 1/4 years. Until then, I had pretty short release-cycles ...

More than a year ago I did a series of load-tests to find out how many players my game-server could take. My goal was to be able to host about 150 players per server. Unfortunately, in the last of those load-tests it turned out that around 70 players things got really ...

What's that? Everyone's crazy with christmas and I write about a Unity workshop? Well, it's been a busy week so blogging had to wait until I had time ... which is ... NOW! ... so, anyways, here we go ...

Not everyone wants to immediately register with every site available. On the other hand, sometimes you come across a site you feel might be interesting ... and you create a bookmark ... and forget about it. That's what happens to me frequently. So I thought I'd add a newsletter subscription to www.ramtiga.com.

The old design of this Website has been more and more of a pain for me to look at and work with - so I'm really glad that today I can introduce: RaMtiGA - Webdesign V 2.0, a much more colorful and intense design with a left-side navigation ...

I just installed the new version of the blog-software for the portal system. And ... it's not quite working. When I currently click on any of the blog entries, I'm getting a Firefox error telling me that there's some unending redirection. So, this is both an announcement and a test-posting ;-)

I'm right now listening to the current state of the soundscape for Level 11 of Traces of Illumination - Everything in Nothing. It's not quite polished, yet ... but I'm happy that aside of some extra-polishing, it's done.

Since there was no real activity on the forums, I've temporarily disabled them. They'll return with the next round of beta-testing of Traces of Illumination.

A few days ago, I realized that while my preferred means of communication for www.ramtiga.com is through computer games, I want to broaden the approach by creating a community with a wider perspective. Let me explain ...

That's a very interesting experience I'm going through right now: I'm still somewhere in the middle of creating Level 12 - "Welcome to Paradise". You could say that within a few days I made some very nice progress (I'm not working full days every day ... so after a month, I can still say "within a few days" ;-) ).

Over at the Unity forums, there's currently a thread about "how we got started with programming" and I thought that was a great opportunity to finally finish my "history" section of how I got into game development ...

No, I've not suddenly become a 13-year-old incapable of proper spelling. But I'm still a bit tortured by the virus that got me down last week. That was not cool news.

It took its time - but now it's done: Instead of using my homegrown "network filter" that basically sent the message to each player individually and directly (in loops for all kinds of groups), Traces of Illumination is now using Unity's built-in networking-scoping ...

It's been a rather inspiring time, and while development didn't advance quite as much as I would have liked it - the last two months were a time of many ideas, things becoming more clear and getting things settled ...

Wait a minute ... no, this is still not about the news of Traces of Illumination. Right: Right after Unite 2008, I was on a 12-day intensive meditation experiential seminar. That was a pretty great experience with many hours of deep meditations every day ...

I've just sent out the invitation to the first load-test of Traces of Illumination. For the purpose of this load-test, I've created a special "load-test client" which immediately logs in to the server. The user only needs to join a team, and then wait until a real player hits "play" - the load-test client basically simulates a user with the simple AI that's also used in single player mode. The full invitation:
